The Spanish basketball team has an interesting sense of humor. Maybe Spaniards do not cosider making “slant eyes” a offensive gesture, but the rest of the world does. These guys are clueless. The Spaniards had no clue they were being offensive, but the Chinese and the rest of the world are sure to blow a fuse over this “incident.” We’re not promoting drama but this is not using your common sense, Senores. I believe that the NBA advised Kobe Bryant and Lebron James to NOT make offensive gestures during the games.
From the U.K. Telegraph
“Spain’s Olympic basketball teams have risked upsetting their Chinese hosts by posing for a pre-Games advert making slit-eyed gestures. The advert for a courier company, which is an official sponsor of the Spanish Basketball Federation, occupied a full page in the sports daily Marca, the country’s best-selling newspaper.”
Fistacuffs broke out last night at the Shock/Sparks WNBA game. Bill Lambeer’s Detroit Shock got tangled up with Candice Parker and the L.A. Sparks. Wow, this will be great for the leagues P.R. This may be the best thing to happen to the league in years, if not ever. The league is stale and boring, and personally we’d tune into the WNBA is they showed a little more fire and fights broke out more often.
What makes this even more amazing, is that Rick Mahorn, a coach of the Shock, shoved (or gently pushed) Lisa Leslie from the L.A. Sparks to the floor at The Palace in Auburn Hills. Yes, this is the same Rick Mahorn, who as a broadcaster jumped up into the stands to keep Ron Artest from jacking up fans in the Pacers/Pistons brawl.
I was trying to protect the whole game, the integrity of the game,” Mahorn told the media after the game. “I would never push a woman. This game, I love this game too much.”Lisa Leslie, Candice Park and the L.A. Sparks lost the fight, but Rick Mahorn may have lost the battle.
To quote the old Warner Wolf line: Let’s go to the video tape:
We’re never one to celebrate the demise of another person. That being said, Billy Packer has never been a champion of the underdog. His 27 years of tenure covering CBS NCAA basketball is coming to an end, and all the mid-majors in the country are rejoicing. Never a fan of the George Mason‘s or St. Joe’s of the world, Packer will be placed by Clark Kellogg starting this season.
We like Kellogg, though he’s low key and may have to increase the energy factor for the next tourney. We all know the darkhorse for the lead booth at the tourney is ____.
We all know that Stephen A. Smith is like Lamar Odom, all dressed up but with nowhere to go. Our boy Stephen is a knowledgable fellow on paper, but doesn’t play well in the big games, like Odom. He was demoted from a draft analysis, to a draftee interviewer at the NBA Draft. This heckler smells bad, and fits in a a size 9 shoe.
Anyway, Fastforward to the 1:50 mark and this heckling video gets good. The Cheetos ads are busch league, but alas.
